What happens
Dr. William Richter, a retired surgeon with a private laboratory, is experimenting with keeping severed brain tissue alive. His daughter Elaine plans to marry John, his assistant, but Richter objects for reasons he will not fully explain. After a car accident leaves Elaine gravely injured, Richter's surgical work becomes increasingly disturbing, and John finds himself caught between love and a growing sense of dread about what the doctor intends. The broadcast presents the story through its unsettling developments, with the Whistler narrating in his shadowy manner.
A remote country laboratory and a twisting highway near Dr. Richter's home, with a hospital room where Elaine recovers from a head injury.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
