What happens

Captain Martin Quist, a sea captain devoted to his ship, protects his first mate Ryder after Ryder's drunkenness causes the steamer Carson City to wreck. Second mate Charles Grant is blamed and sent to prison, and Quist testifies against him. Years later, Quist is again beholden to Ryder, and Grant turns up as second mate aboard the Patricia Kay, bringing Quist's secret back to the surface. Quist's failing eyesight and his desperate grip on his command set the stage for the crisis. The Whistler narrates this story of The Seeing Eye, which was broadcast on November 12, 1945.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
