What happens

Eve Benton, a young woman in a Kansas City hotel, sees a man flee from the room next door and finds a wounded man inside with a train ticket and cash. She takes the ticket and boards a train west, where she meets Frank Gilbert, a man she recognizes as the fleeing stranger. Eve learns that an insurance company has offered thirty thousand dollars, no questions asked, for the return of a stolen necklace through private investigator Leonard Quinn. Frank proposes to Eve that she act as his go-between in the deal, and she begins to suspect he has been planning to cheat her.

Kansas City, then San Francisco and a train bound for Los Angeles, in the early 1950s

Characters: Eve Benton, Frank Gilbert, Leonard Quinn, Mrs. Evans Perryman

Listen for: The newscast about the thirty thousand dollar offer and the final telephone exchange between Eve and Frank

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
