What happens
Alan Harper, a struggling young attorney, is hired by John Blake, president of the Plymouth Building and Loan, to draw a will and deliver a letter to Blake's brother Hillary, who has recently returned from Australia. Blake pays him generously and insists he keep the matter quiet. The next day Blake's daughter Anita reports that her father has not come home, and her fiance Wilbur Martin grows suspicious of Hillary. Harper, meanwhile, grows uneasy as the disappearance deepens and the will and letter begin to raise questions about what Blake intended.
A city in the United States, c. 1940s: a lawyer's small office, the Blake home, and police headquarters near the river docks.
Characters: Alan Harper, John Blake, Anita Blake, Wilbur Martin, Hillary Blake, Sergeant Hanlon
Listen for: Listen for the reading of John Blake's letter to his brother Hillary, and for the handwriting comparison Sergeant Evans makes later in the story.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
