What happens
Johnny Hale, a newspaper man serving a sentence in a state prison, learns that his elderly cellmate Ed Halliday has been receiving letters from a woman in England, and that the prison censors have been reading them aloud as a joke. Johnny asks Warden Conroy to stop the mockery, but the warden refuses to bend the prison rules. Johnny's concern for Ed grows as the old man's health fails. The Whistler series is heard on the Signal Oil program, and this Christmas-season episode first aired on December 23, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
