What happens

Eddie Vincent, right-hand man to District Attorney Ryan, learns that the notorious criminal Bugsy Malone has escaped from prison and vowed revenge on Ryan. Eddie has his own reasons for wanting Ryan dead, and he sets a plan in motion while Ryan prepares for a weekend at his house in Shelton. Eddie's scheme depends on a gate that must be opened by two people, and nothing goes as he planned. Ryan's trip is uneasy, and Eddie grows increasingly desperate. This is an episode of the radio series The Whistler, first broadcast on 1945-02-26, with its lead actors not named in the transcript.

Listen for: Eddie's plan to use the gate and the rifle hidden in the hills, and how events begin to undo it.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
