He then boards a train to New York, where a passenger named Ricketts becomes suspicious of him. When the train is wrecked in a collision, Albert takes the identity of Leslie Jameson, a mystery writer who died in the crash. He is drawn into a tangle of hotel publicity, a demanding woman named Ruth who claims to be his wife, and mounting pressure from the police. The episode is from The Whistler, first broadcast on December 17, 1947, and the story is told in its first part only.

Listen for: Albert's crafty assumption of Leslie Jameson's identity after the train wreck, and Ruth's increasing demands on him

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
