What happens

Miss Bessie Brewer, a wealthy and miserly woman, lives alone in an isolated lakeside house with her servant Martha. Their relationship turns sour when Martha, tired of years of mistreatment, takes control of the household and confines her mistress. Miss Brewer's nephew Harvey and his wife Lillian arrive unexpectedly, hoping to collect money from his aunt. The Whistler presents this tale of greed and resentment, with the tension rising as the visitors make their demands. The episode is from The Whistler, first broadcast on January 15, 1945.

An old house set back in the trees near a lake, reached by a muddy road, during a rainy night.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
