What happens

Russ Anders, an insurance man from St. Louis, is blackmailed in London by a small, bowler-hatted man named Pettibone, who claims to know of a murder. Anders's wife has gone back to America, and he is waiting for a friend in a pub when Pettibone arrives demanding a thousand pounds. Anders then climbs to Pettibone's flat, where he finds a woman across the light well watching him, and later discovers Pettibone's body in a flat belonging to Tom Morsby. The episode follows Anders as he tries to work out who is responsible and what he can do next. This is the Whistler series, and the transcript does not give an original air date or cast here.

London, England, in a hot summer night and the following day, including a pub called the Lion and Hawk, several flats and a West End club.

Characters: Russ Anders, Pettibone, Alma Benna, Tom Morsby, Inspector Krair, Teddy Brown

Listen for: Listen for how Anders's blackmail plan and the body in the flat shift who holds the advantage over whom.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
