What happens

Wally Leighton, a private investigator, takes a trench coat from a North Beach restaurant by mistake and finds an envelope of money inside, which a gunman forces him to surrender. Back at the restaurant he learns the coat belonged to Chick Carter, a racketeer who specializes in blackmail. Wally begins to follow Carter, and his inquiries lead him to Louise Murdoch, the second wife of Franklin Murdoch, who is making payments to Carter. Wally becomes drawn to Louise while plotting how to end the blackmail. The Whistler series is the setting for this story, which was first broadcast on June 17, 1951.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
