What happens

Elaine Brand, a radio actress, rides across town to see her friend Nancy Whitney's sister Margaret after Nancy has been found dead in her apartment on the morning before her wedding. Elaine has planned Nancy's death with care, and she must convince Margaret and the police that Nancy took her own life while hiding her own part in it. Her plan begins to unravel when a reporter suggests that Nancy's fiance, Bill Pendle, is under suspicion. The episode is part of The Whistler radio series, broadcast on April 14, 1947, and its cast includes Mary Lansing and Lorraine Tuffle.

A city and its suburbs, February, including Nancy's apartment and the quiet house in Elmwood where Margaret lives.

Characters: Elaine Brand, Nancy Whitney, Margaret Whitney, Bill Pendle, Mr. Berkwell, Mr. Frazier

Listen for: Elaine's careful lies to Margaret and the reporter, and the moment Margaret begins to doubt her.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
