What happens

On Christmas night at a small coastal hospital in Southern California, intern Dr. Neil Andrews receives a letter from Cynthia Walker, the woman he lost after an accident more than a year earlier. Neil recalls the night he let his best friend, Charlie Bennett, drive his car, the crash that followed, and how Charlie's lie cost Neil his reputation and Cynthia's trust. Shortly after, the switchboard reports an automobile accident, and Neil learns the injured man is Charlie Bennett. The Whistler is a radio series, and this episode aired on December 25, 1949, with David Ellis, Isabelle Jule and Paul Fries in the cast. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
