What happens

Morley Carr meets Sam Ryan, a talkative, well-dressed stranger in an Omaha hotel bar, and Ryan boasts of a quarter million dollars and a key in his pocket. Later that night Carr hears a noise from Ryan's room, sees a dark-haired woman leave it, and finds Ryan dead on the bed with a knife in his back and his inside coat pocket empty. Carr tracks the woman, Lucy Elacey, to San Francisco, where he follows her to a hotel and then to a pawn shop run by a man named Cardosa. The episode is part of the Whistler series, with the Signal Oil program's introduction and commercials.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
