What happens

Walter Mason, a long-serving messenger at the Crane National Bank, is about to see his daughter Kathy engaged to Donald Crane, son of the late bank head Alfred Crane, at a party at the Crane home on Long Island. Mrs. Crane, however, has had a private investigator look into Walter's past and found only a blank wall before 1922. At the party Walter is recognised by Roy Sharp, the Crane butler, who knows a secret from Walter's past and begins to press him for money. The Whistler series, first broadcast on 1947-03-31, is a crime anthology, and this episode stars Charles Seal and Jack Patrick.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
