What happens

Lance Cole, agent and friend of the playwright Philip Leonard, finds his client dead at a mountain lodge after a snowstorm, and the doctor's examination raises questions about open windows and damp blankets. At the funeral, Cole drives the widow, Lydia Leonard, home, and she urges him to complete a final play Leonard had planned about his own life. Cole's office hears the first scenes of the play. The Whistler series aired this episode on February 5, 1950, and this guide follows only the opening portion of the story.

A snowbound mountain lodge, a funeral, and city offices and apartments.

Characters: Lance Cole, Philip Leonard, Lydia Leonard, Doctor, Deborah Brock, Cliff Davis, Anita McCray, Winnie

Listen for: Pay attention to what Cole says about the windows and the blankets at the lodge, and to how Lydia responds when he offers to write the play.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
