What happens
Eve Treherne, a former novelist, marries history professor Philip Treherne after she draws him away from his first wife, Ethel. In the small college town of Litchfield, Eve is never accepted by the townspeople or by Philip's household. When Philip is named the new dean of history, Eve grows increasingly resentful of Ethel's continued influence, and her frustration builds as her efforts to secure her place in the town falter. This segment of The Whistler, broadcast on October 29, 1950, follows the strained marriage and the rivalry that drives Eve to a desperate decision.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
