What happens
Cliff Garner, a stuntman, saves film producer Sid Lorenz from a fall into a studio tank and expects a generous reward. Lorenz offers only thanks and a promise of work, and Garner's resentment grows. After noticing the combination of Lorenz's wall safe, Garner steals a set of rare medieval manuscripts worth about one hundred thousand dollars. His girlfriend Helen discovers him at the house and urges him to return them, but he refuses. The Whistler series, first broadcast on April 30, 1950, follows Garner as he tries to sell the manuscripts through an art dealer named Moncrief, and as the consequences of the theft begin to press in on him.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
