What happens
Captain Ernie Hill runs a cargo ship in the Far East and has been secretly selling cargo that was never loaded, staging wrecks to cover the theft. His former lover Lucille arrives aboard the ship with her husband, Charles Collins, son of the shipping line's owner, and demands a share of his smuggling profits. Hill tries to bluff his way through, but Lucille pressures him, and his first mate grows uneasy about the arrangement. The Whistler series, first broadcast on October 8, 1950, presents this tale of greed and betrayal at sea.
A cargo ship, the prowler, sailing among islands from Rangoon, and the waterfront village of Bouquet.
Characters: Ernie Hill, Lucille, Charles Collins, Jake, Annie
Listen for: Pay attention to the moment Hill realises Lucille will not let the smuggling deal go and what she demands of him.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
