What happens
Mary Winslow, working under the name Candy Porter as a singer at a seedy Panama City nightspot, is approached on Christmas night by Fontaine, an American who has tracked her down. She recalls the night a year earlier when she met gambler Joe Clark after a party in Los Angeles, and how that evening led to a driving job she never wanted. As Fontaine listens, Mary weighs her one remaining card. The Whistler series, broadcast by Signal Oil and heard on December 26, 1948, presents the story with Joan Banks and Jack Patruse in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
