What happens
John Hawley, a young seaman newly home from the merchant marine, schemes to take Captain Daniel Bailey's trawler, money and wife, Carrie. Working as a deckhand for the miserly captain, John learns that Bailey keeps his savings in an iron sea chest and plots to get it. Carrie, once John's childhood sweetheart, is drawn into the plan as tension builds between the three of them on the water. The Whistler series aired this episode on December 16, 1951, with Bill Foreman as the Whistler and Lamont Johnson and Peggy Weber among the leads.
A fishing harbor on the West Coast, aboard Captain Bailey's lobster trawler and on the nearby waters, with a fog-bound wharf and the Bailey home.
Characters: John Hawley, Captain Daniel Bailey, Carrie Bailey, Matt Tuttle
Listen for: The fog horn sounding over the harbor, and the sound of the iron sea chest being carried and locked in the cabin locker.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
