What happens
Elliot Wilson, an agent for Crawford Pierce, arranges the shipment of a Chinese elephant puzzle hiding diamonds from Singapore to San Francisco, after killing his partner Anton Handsome. Back in San Francisco he learns that Jim Craig, the man meant to receive the puzzle, has died in an accident. Tracing the puzzle through a gift shop, he finds it was sold to Alton Galloway, a collector in the village of Riverview. Galloway refuses to sell it, and their confrontation at his home ends in his death. Wilson is drawn into the investigation as the sheriff and a reporter go over the collection. The Whistler series, first broadcast March 5, 1950, is told in the Whistler's narration.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
