What happens

Private detective Steve Carson is drawn into a blackmail scheme involving letters that could ruin Davis Sheldon, a prominent businessman. Sheldon's associate Wilson is pressed to recover the letters from a woman who is threatening to sell them, and the deal turns into a tense standoff. Carson finds himself under suspicion as the situation grows more dangerous, and he works to clear his name while the parties around him maneuver against one another. The Whistler, original air date February 24, 1955, is one of the series' crime dramas, and this episode's transcript covers only its first part, so the full resolution of the case is not included in this guide.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
