What happens

Eddie Smith tracks down Barkley Wells, literary agent for the mysterious author J.C. Raven, in Havana, but Wells is killed on a quiet street before they can talk further. Eddie takes Raven's unpublished story and travels to Hollywood, presenting himself to Imperial Studios as J.C. Raven. He hires Veronica Corby as his secretary, and the two build a working relationship while he writes the new script. Veronica becomes suspicious, and Eddie begins to suspect what she knows about Wells. The Whistler program, a radio mystery series, presents this episode, first broadcast on March 31, 1948, with the story told by the announcer and cast.

Characters: Eddie Smith, Barkley Wells, J.C. Raven, Marcus Rosenman, Veronica Corby, Mrs. Ellison, Lieutenant Driscoll

Listen for: Eddie's confident plan to pass himself off as J.C. Raven and the way Veronica's behavior begins to unsettle him

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
