What happens

In an old mansion surrounded by pines, the elderly Elizabeth Kemper lives with relatives who have inherited little, and she begins hearing and seeing her late husband John. Her sister Mary and nephew Herbert grow frightened as the apparition appears to them as well, each claiming John has delivered a message about the estate. Herbert sets out to test these claims, visiting the family lawyer and John's former physician to learn how John died and why his will was changed. The Whistler's narration frames the tale as an unusual story of shadows and secrets. The episode is from The Whistler, a CBS series, first broadcast November 15, 1942.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
