What happens
Henry Farrington, a failed former artist, is bullied by his wealthy wife Agatha, whose heart is failing under her temper. When Agatha's niece Janet returns home with her new husband Grant, Agatha threatens to disinherit her. Henry is pressed for money by his former lawyer Joe Hammond. The Whistler, who narrates the tale, follows the household through a night of alarm, a shooting and a police investigation. This is the story of the Whistler radio series, first broadcast on CBS on October 25, 1942.
A large house in a town, with a library, a bedroom and a garden, during a few days of Farrington family troubles
Characters: Henry Farrington, Agatha Farrington, Janet Farrington, Grant Collins, Joe Hammond, Higgins, Dr. Johnson
Listen for: The gun with blanks in it, and the question of who fired the real bullets.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
