What happens
Fred Conrad, a popular district attorney running for governor, is advised by his campaign manager Art Moran to publicly take in Max Fenton, a convicted murderer recently pardoned by the governor. Conrad agrees, seeing the publicity as a political boost. Soon a singer named Millie, the daughter of a woman Conrad once wronged, appears at his home. She threatens to expose a damaging letter Conrad wrote years earlier unless he pays her thousands of dollars. Conrad, under pressure and growing jealous of Millie's interest in Max, begins to weigh a desperate plan.
A city in the 1940s, including Conrad's home and garden, a nightclub, and Cypress Point at the coast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
