What happens
Art broker John Winters, travelling in Venice, is handed a painting that is apparently a forgery of a Montagna, and the story turns on a quarter-million-dollar deal in New York. Winters meets the client Mr. Brickley and later a woman who has a stake in the picture. Her apartment is the scene of a tense exchange with a caller named Mr. Groth, and Winters is left to weigh the business against his feelings for her. The Whistler series provides the framing narration, and the original air date is June 9, 1955.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
