What happens
Tarzan, the jungle lord, meets Wange, a native of the city of Ortho, whose master Thorvall has been taken prisoner by the lion-men of the city of Victor. Tarzan rescues an elephant trapped in a pit and then pursues the lion-men, who capture him along with Thorvall. Both are sentenced to die in the arena of Victor, where the lion-men plan to pit them against gladiators, lions and a rogue elephant. Tarzan confronts the crowd's champions with courage and wit, and the story follows the desperate contest in the arena that determines their fate.
