What happens
Tarzan, Terry O'Rourke and Kyluk, a Ratorian, escape a public whipping in the square before the Palace of Tor with the help of Wong Thai, then slip away from pursuers toward the elephant paddocks. Elsewhere in Tor, Ataya, white queen of the yellow men, accuses Jeanette Burton of causing her misfortunes and orders her to the chamber of serpents, where a black cobra confronts her. Dr. Wong arrives and shoots the snake, then takes Jeanette to his private quarters. In Rator, Darno wounds the traitor Tamur in a sword duel, then returns with Uka and the shalon to prove his accusations. Tarzan and his companions reach the paddocks at dusk, where a hungry lion closes in on Kyluk.
