What happens
Tarzan faces an ultimatum from Atea, the white queen of Tor: he must remain willingly as her mate, or his companions will die by sacrifice or torture. To prove her threat, Atea has Tarzan fight Toldo, a huge chained lion guarding her treasure. Tarzan kills the beast, and Atea orders Tarzan, Jeanette, Uka and the others taken away under guard. Jeanette suspects the queen deliberately pushed her toward the lion. Tarzan then gives his companions a signal, and as the group crosses the outer walls under guard, he attacks his captors.
