What happens
Sam Brown, a milkman in a strained marriage with his wife Katie, is startled when police report that his wallet was found on an unidentified body after a hit-and-run. Katie and Sam realize the mistaken identity could pay out a $20,000 double-indemnity insurance policy, and Sam leaves town under the name Lionel Hendrix. In Chicago he falls in with a woman named Cleo Carter, while Katie waits and the money question grows heavier. This is the Suspense episode "You Can't Die Twice," broadcast on March 31, 1949, starring Edward G. Robinson.
A small American town and Chicago, 1949
Characters: Sam Brown, Katie Brown, Harry, Gert, Cleo Carter, Sergeant Ryan
Listen for: The April Fool's Day phone call that starts the scheme, and Sam's escape to Chicago under an assumed name
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
