What happens

Ridgway, a debt-ridden young man, learns that his wealthy aunt, Mary Harta, has named him her heir, and that moneylender Jepsen will ruin him unless he raises ten thousand pounds within four weeks. Ridgway devises a cruel practical joke: he persuades his aunt, who has a weak heart, to install a radio, then speaks to her through it in the voice of her dead husband, Patrick. Mary is terrified by the messages, and Ridgway waits for the moment when she will be frightened to death. Starring James Mason and Pamela Colino, this Suspense episode aired on February 24, 1949.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
