What happens

Vidocq, a former head of the Paris police who has been retired for ten years, is drawn back into a case when a series of jewel robberies baffles Commissioner Dubigny. Vidocq is brought in and seeks out the Marquis, a gentleman thief, at a Paris cafe, where a staged brawl lands Vidocq and Inspector Williams in jail. Vidocq then uses his own methods to work the case, and the story is told in his own written report. Suspense presents this tale as a true story, with Charles Boyer starring in the lead role in this 1952 broadcast of September 29.

Characters: Vidocq, Commissioner Dubigny, Inspector William, the Marquis, Lebac

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
