What happens
Carol and her husband Paul arrive at the farm of her aunt Julie and uncle Henry, whom Carol remembers fondly from childhood summers. The house is neglected and dusty, but the rose bush outside is carefully tended. Aunt Julie is cold and evasive, refuses to say where Uncle Henry is, and Carol and Paul begin to suspect that something is badly wrong in the household. This is the first radio play by Larry Roman, broadcast on Columbia's Suspense series on June 29, 1943, with Agnes Moorehead, Ellen Drew and Ted Reed in the leading roles. Carol and Paul search the house and the grounds, looking for an explanation for what they find.
A small farm in the countryside upstate, with an old farmhouse, a barn and a rose garden.
Characters: Carol, Paul, Aunt Julie, Uncle Henry
Listen for: Pay attention to the rose bush by the porch and to the state of the house, which suggest that something has happened to Uncle Henry.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
