What happens

Lawyer Elder Warren, a tough criminal defender, takes on the case of Tommy Estaman, a man accused of shooting Renzo during a robbery at a gambling house. Estaman admits the killing to Elder and offers her a fee for the defense, and the two soon marry. Later, another gambler is found dead, and Estaman's gun is found at the scene. District Attorney Sandy Williams, who has long courted Elder, presses the charge. The story follows Elder as she prepares her defense for a second trial.

A city in the American West in the 1950s, including a jail, a courtroom, a downtown hotel poker room, and the Estaman home.

Characters: Elder Warren, Tommy Estaman, Sandy Williams, Frank Penrose, Renzo, Harry

Listen for: Elder's courtroom questioning of herself on the witness stand and the jury's verdict.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
