What happens

Dave and Myra, a struggling dentist and his wife, live under the control of Dave's wealthy, wheelchair-bound Uncle Ed, who holds the promise of a large inheritance over them. Their resentment grows after a bitter morning of humiliations, and Ed's lawyer is due to visit. Suspense, the radio anthology series, broadcast this play on December 26, 1947, and stars Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard as the couple. The story is told through the couple's strained conversations in the house, as they weigh their options and their dependence on the old man's money.

A house in a city neighborhood, where Dave and Myra live with Uncle Ed, who is confined to a wheelchair; the story also moves to a nearby drug store.

Characters: Dave, Myra, Uncle Ed, Mr. Eldridge, Dr. O'Connor, Mr. Herman, Willie

Listen for: Pay attention to the couple's private arguments in the kitchen and the way Uncle Ed's demands and jibes shape their mood through the morning.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
