What happens

In a quiet Midwestern town on a warm summer night, Lavinia Nevers and her friend Francine walk to the movies through a dark ravine. Lavinia notices the body of Eliza Ramsell, who has been found dead in the bushes. Townspeople already fear a killer known as the lonely one, after earlier deaths. Lavinia's friends urge her to stay with them, but she insists on walking home alone. Suspense, the radio thriller series, aired this episode on August 31, 1958, starring Agnes Moorehead.

Characters: Lavinia Nevers, Francine, Helen, Eliza Ramsell, Officer Kennedy, Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Hamlin

Listen for: The footsteps on the ravine steps and the sound behind Lavinia as she reaches her front door

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
