What happens
Lavinia Nettles and her friend Francine walk with Helen toward the Majestic Theatre across a dark ravine in an Illinois town where women have recently been strangled. In the ravine they find the body of Eliza Ramsell, a friend of theirs, and the police arrive. Despite their fear, the women decide to go to the late show. Later, Lavinia walks home alone through the empty streets and must cross the ravine by herself, where she senses someone behind her. The story is adapted from Ray Bradbury's script and presented on the Suspense series, which starred Janet Nolan.
A small Illinois town on a warm summer night, divided by a deep ravine with a creaking bridge and a steep brambled path
Characters: Lavinia Nettles, Francine, Helen, Eliza Ramsell, Mrs. Hanlon, Mr. Briggs, Officer Kennedy
Listen for: The footsteps and the sound of someone following Lavinia as she crosses the ravine alone
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
