What happens

Houston, a down-on-his-luck young journalist, agrees to spend a night alone in the chamber of horrors at a waxworks museum for a hundred pounds and a story. The manager warns him the atmosphere is unpleasant and that he may find it uncomfortable. Houston walks among the wax figures of notorious criminals, including the French doctor Boudet, and begins to feel that one of the figures is watching him and moving. The episode is part of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on March 1, 1959, with Herbert Marshall as the narrator, and is adapted from A.M. Burridge's story.

Characters: Houston, The manager, Dr. Boudet, Crippen, LeFroy

Listen for: Houston's growing unease as he becomes convinced one of the wax figures moves, and the manager's warnings about the chamber

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
