What happens

Sam Rogers, who secretly loves Catherine Gilpin, learns that she plans to marry his friend Jack Stewart, a clerk he has long resented for her affection. After Sam gives the couple his house as a wedding present and Jack scornfully rejects his generosity, Sam begins to plan Jack's death. He builds an alibi around a party and a ferry ticket, and the story follows how the plan unfolds on the night he carries it out. Suspense, the anthology series, presented this play on January 13, 1949, with Danny Kaye in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
