What happens

Richard Hannay, an American-born Englishman newly back in London from Africa, takes in Frank Scudder, a stranger who fears for his life. Scudder claims a Greek politician, Carolides, will be assassinated and that a German secret society called the Black Stone is behind the plot. Hannay finds Scudder dead the next morning, and the police come looking for him as the chief suspect. He flees north by train, where the chase continues, and he hides in a remote fishing village near the coast. This is the Suspense radio drama The 39 Steps, broadcast on March 3, 1952, starring Herbert Marshall.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
