What happens

Mrs. Skinner, a widow, has just had her husband shot at the Johnson House, and she is attending the coroner's inquest. Sounds such as chalk scraping a blackboard and fingernails dragging down a wall make her faint, and she begins to notice that Mr. Jonathan Brown from the Sheriff's office keeps watching her closely. The episode is part of the Suspense series, which aired on April 26, 1951, with Anne Baxter and Joseph Kearns in the lead roles. Mrs. Skinner tries to return to her place in the community, but the same noises continue to trouble her as Mr. Brown's attention remains fixed on her.

Listen for: The sharp scraping sounds of chalk on a blackboard, fingernails on stucco, and a hammer on wood, which affect Mrs. Skinner

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
