What happens

Suspense presents a 1943 episode set in wartime Berlin, starring Vincent Price, and first broadcast on November 23, 1943. Charles Umberstein, an architect at a munitions plant, is recommended to a Gestapo official and finds himself under suspicion. Living in a rented room, he feels watched and wonders how he could have been discovered, recalling his passport, his contacts and the plans he has secretly copied. Tension builds as he sees a figure waiting outside his window and must decide what to do next.

Berlin, Germany, during the Nazi era, in a munitions factory and a rooming house

Characters: Charles Umberstein, Captain von Heint, Franz Mueller, Frau Keller, Hans Neumann

Listen for: Umberstein's growing certainty that he has been found out, and the question of how he was discovered

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
