What happens

Tom Morris, a leading Lincoln scholar, agrees to an experiment devised by Professor Hodges, a machine that sends a person's mind back into the mind of someone living in the past. Tom first tests it by entering his own father's mind in 1912 and then hears the Gettysburg Address in 1863. Now the two men prepare to send Tom back to Ford's Theatre on the night of April 14, 1865, where he must take over the mind of the ticket taker, Buckingham. The episode is part of the CBS radio series Suspense, first broadcast on February 11, 1962, with Court Benson as Tom and Ian Martin as the Professor. The story is written by Robert Arthur.

A laboratory in the present day, a 1912 public library, the Gettysburg battlefield, and Ford's Theatre in Washington on the night of April 14, 1865.

Characters: Tom Morris, Professor Hodges, Mary Andrews, Buckingham, Booth, Abraham Lincoln

Listen for: Tom's voice shifting as he enters the minds of others, and the Professor's instructions before the final attempt to change history.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
