What happens
Homer J. Hubbard, a mild office worker married to a domineering wife named Ada, becomes obsessed with the screen tough guy Edward G. Robinson after seeing a film. He begins living out Robinson's roles in daydreams and imitations, and he starts planning to kill Ada. The episode of the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on October 17, 1946, is sponsored by Roma Wines and stars Edward G. Robinson playing both himself and Hubbard. Homer's plan to make a murder look like suicide hinges on a gun he obtains and on a man who claims to be Robinson himself.
An American city in the 1930s and 1940s, including the Hubbards' home, Homer's office, a movie theater, and a hotel.
Characters: Homer J. Hubbard, Ada Sampsey Hubbard, Edward G. Robinson, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Pemberton, Mr. Reiner
Listen for: Homer's imitations of Robinson's voice and mannerisms, and the phone call that interrupts his plan on the night he means to act.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
