What happens

Merosleko, a Russian cipher clerk at the Soviet embassy in Mexico City, learns he is being recalled to Moscow, where he fears death in a Siberian work camp. Rather than go, he steals secret documents and hides them with his wife, Lillia, and their infant son, Ivan, planning to use the papers to buy their safety. Suspense is the radio anthology series, and this episode aired on February 9, 1953, with William Powell as the star. The story follows Merosleko's desperate attempt to find someone who will believe him and protect his family as he moves through the city during a festival.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
