What happens

Chief Inspector Finchley of Scotland Yard investigates Stanley Leach, a shopkeeper suspected of murdering his wife Esther two years after she vanished. Finchley questions Leach, speaks with Esther's nephew Richard Cade, and visits Leach's fiancée Ada Willis, whose account of the couple's private affairs deepens the suspicion. Neighbours recall a violent quarrel the night before Esther left, and a burn on Leach's finger draws the inspector's attention. The episode is part of the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on April 10, 1956, and stars Ben Wright.

London, England, in the years after Esther Leach's disappearance, including Scotland Yard, Leach's shop and flat, a garage on the Kent Road, and a private home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
