What happens
In 1888 London, during a run of murders blamed on a killer known as the Avenger, Ellen Bunting and her husband Robert let a room to a stern, pious lodger named Mr. Sleuth. Ellen grows uneasy over his odd behavior, his locked luggage, and his disapproval of music and dancing, while her stepdaughter Daisy has just come home. Ellen begins to suspect her lodger and searches his room, and the household's fear rises as the night draws on. The story is presented as part of the Suspense radio series, with Robert Montgomery starring, and was broadcast on December 14, 1944.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
