What happens

Professor Alonso P. Witherspoon, a con man posing as a geology expert, arrives in the dusty town of Pratt Ville after being left stranded by his partner Harry. He is taken in by the Nef family, who tell him about Green River, which vanished underground decades ago, and about a town-funded plan to restore it. Witherspoon claims a connection to Senator Cotton and begins working on the town's mayor, banker Henry Wink, to win a share of the expected profits. Meanwhile the Nefs' son Sonny grows suspicious and wants a second opinion. Suspense, the radio series, aired this episode on May 30, 1946, with Alan Hale in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
