What happens

Mitch Mitchell, a newspaper columnist writing about a serial killer known as the Thirteenth Apostle, receives an anonymous note summoning him to a chapel at midnight. He tells his colleague Jeannie about it over dinner, and she and police lieutenant Bill Dowell, who also received a note, agree to meet him there. The three gather in the chapel, where the atmosphere grows tense and each begins to suspect the others. This is the Suspense radio play The Lady in the Red Hat, broadcast on August 30, 1955, starring Vic Perrin.

A city in the 1950s, including a newspaper office, a restaurant, and a chapel on Seventh Street on a snowy night.

Characters: Mitch Mitchell, Jeannie, Bill Dowell, Mr. Banning, Mrs. White, Mario, Ginny

Listen for: The anonymous notes summoning the characters to the chapel at midnight, and the growing suspicion among the three friends as each begins to doubt the others.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
